2015 Triple J Unearthed NIMAs Competition Now OPEN

The partnership between NIMAs and triple j Unearthed to undertake the only national Indigenous Unearthed competition has yielded outstanding results. After Unearthing the amazing Thelma Plum

[QLD] in 2012, Robbie Miller [QLD] in 2013 and rising hip-hop artist Philly [VIC] in 2014 there is much anticipation for 2015s discovery.

“triple js unearthed NIMAs competition has proved its ability to turn emerging artists into household names.  We are thrilled to be again partnering with triple j on this initiative and look forward to discovering the next big thing,” says Mark Smith – Executive Director of MusicNT & NIMAs.

“Without triple j Unearthed and the NIMAs I wouldn’t be where I am here, right now”, says 2014 winner Philly, a young hip-hop artist who releases his new single titled “Dream Chaser” this Friday. “I’ve just stepped out of the recording studio putting my first album together with guests including Jimblah and If I can do it, so can anywhere with a bit of get up and go.”

The NIMAs are recognized nationally as the pre-eminent awards for Indigenous Music. The prestigious awards ceremony and concert has grown into a popular night out for all the family and this year’s lucky Unearthed winner will be added to the bill to perform alongside Frank Yamma, NT local favorites from Tiwi Island B2M , The Painted Ladies and headliners East Journey Feat. Yothu Yindi’s premiere performance of The Genesis Project.

Entries for the triple j Unearthed NIMAs competition close July 5th  – the winner  will be announced during NAIDOC Week  in July.
