Over the past few months the TEABBA VAST changeover team (Mick Cummings & Kyle Doevendans) have been working frantically in collaboration with Susan Locke at IRCA to install the new TEABBA Vast digital radio service in communities which is funded by the DCBDE. Before the Aurora satellite service is switched off.
1st off the ranks was a RPT Flight over to Pirlangimpi, Tiwi Islands, this community was the first to hear TEABBA on the new VAST digital service, with requests popping up left right and centre from the community and also Munupi Arts who are regular listeners to TEABBA.
This was followed by Borroloola, Ngukurr, Numbulwar, Galiwinku, Peppimenarti, Palumpa, Kalkarindji, Wadeye, Daguragu & Yarralin.
Some technical issues were en-counted whilst out on the job such as, TV not being switched over causing havoc when replacing LNBS on dishes, rusted nuts and bolts and overall technical issues with equipment which is starting age, however, we have managed to install the services and also maintain the equipment which it is transmitting through.
We look forward to installation of the VAST Digital TEABBA services in the rest of the communities prior to this coming wet season.
